  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan.

  3. Press half of the crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of your prepared baking pan to form a crust.
  4. Layer the chopped apples evenly over the bottom crust.
  5. Sprinkle white sugar and cinnamon evenly over the apple layer.
  6. Top with the remaining crumb mixture, spreading it evenly but keeping it loose for maximum crispiness.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping turns golden brown and the apples are tender. The edges should be bubbling.
  8. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.
