Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine cold
  • 0.5 cup whole milk

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Fork or Pastry Cutter
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Large Pot with Lid

Method

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut in the cold butter using a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture looks crumbly.
  3. Add the milk and stir gently until a thick batter forms. Let it rest for 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of batter into a pot of gently boiling soup or stew.
  5. Cover the pot with a lid and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  6. Check doneness with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, the dumplings are ready. Serve hot.

Notes

To add more flavor, mix in 1 tablespoon of dried parsley with the dry ingredients. For a finer texture, sift the flour before mixing.
