Ingredients
  

Spiced Apples
  • 6 golden delicious apples peeled and chopped (or sliced)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
Crisp Topping
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats quick oats can be used, but texture will differ
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • kosher salt just a pinch
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cut into small cubes

  • Mixing bowls
  • Pastry cutter or forks
  • Peeler

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, toss chopped apples with granulated sugar, 3/4 tsp cinnamon, and lemon juice. Transfer to the baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, mix brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, and salt. Add cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or forks to combine until crumbly.
  4. Spread the topping evenly over the apples. Lightly press down to make it even.
  5. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
  6. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

To avoid extra liquid at the bottom, you can mix 1 tablespoon of flour into the apple filling. This recipe can be made ahead and reheated before serving. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
