Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 medium lime freshly juiced, reserve one round slice for garnish
  • 10 mint leaves fresh, divided
  • 3/4 ounce simple syrup or use agave syrup mixed with water
  • ice preferably crushed
  • 2 to 4 ounces club soda chilled

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Muddler or spoon
  • Tall glass
  • Citrus juicer

Method

  1. Cut one round slice from the center of the lime and set it aside for garnish. Juice the remaining lime to get about 3/4 ounce of juice.
  2. Place 5 mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle them using a muddler or spoon to release their oils without tearing.
  3. Add the lime juice and simple syrup to the shaker. Fill it halfway with ice, seal, and shake until chilled.
  4. Lightly slap or twist the remaining 5 mint leaves and place them into a tall glass. Fill the glass with crushed ice.
  5. Strain the mixture into the glass. Top with chilled club soda and garnish with the lime slice and a sprig of mint.

Notes

For a fruity twist, muddle a few fresh berries like strawberries or raspberries with the mint. You can also use basil leaves instead of mint for a unique flavor. If you don’t have simple syrup, mix 1/2 ounce of agave syrup with 1/4 ounce of water as a quick substitute.
