Method
- Cut one round slice from the center of the lime and set it aside for garnish. Juice the remaining lime to get about 3/4 ounce of juice.
- Place 5 mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle them using a muddler or spoon to release their oils without tearing.
- Add the lime juice and simple syrup to the shaker. Fill it halfway with ice, seal, and shake until chilled.
- Lightly slap or twist the remaining 5 mint leaves and place them into a tall glass. Fill the glass with crushed ice.
- Strain the mixture into the glass. Top with chilled club soda and garnish with the lime slice and a sprig of mint.
Notes
For a fruity twist, muddle a few fresh berries like strawberries or raspberries with the mint. You can also use basil leaves instead of mint for a unique flavor. If you don’t have simple syrup, mix 1/2 ounce of agave syrup with 1/4 ounce of water as a quick substitute.
